How to Transfer, Buy and Gift Marriott Rewards Points

What is the rule for Marriott Rewards points tranfer?

You can only transfer your Marriott Rewards points at the time of reward redemption and only between you and your legal spouse or domestic partner provided he or she is also a Marriott Rewards member. (only one Reward request per Reward Redemption). Immediately prior to Reward Redemption, you may authorize the transfer of the necessary number of Points into the Rewards Program account of your legal spouse or domestic partner, in order to qualify for a specific Reward.

Only the necessary number of Points needed to redeem the specified Reward, rounded to the nearest 1,000 Points, may be transferred — no more, no less.

You must complete and submit a authorization form to Rewards Program Guest Services in order to transfer the required number of Points. Forms are available by calling Rewards Program Guest Services at 1-801-468-4000 (Marriott Rewards Program) or 1-866-922-6882 (The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Program). A request for Reward Redemption from your legal spouse or domestic partner must be submitted to Rewards Program Guest Services with the Authorization to Transfer Points form.

Once the authorization for transfer is received and processed, you relinquishes all rights to the transferred Points, and they become the your spouse’s or domestic partner’s Points.

How do I purchase and give points?

You can purchase up to 50,000 points a year for yourself or to gift to someone. Points may be purchased at the rate of $12.50 per 1,000 Points and in increments of 1,000. You must be a Rewards Program Member in good standing to purchase and/or receive Points. Once Points have been purchased or gifted, no refunds will be permitted. What’s more, purchasing Points with the Marriott Rewards Visa® card will result in earning one Point per dollar spent on these transactions. It will take 24-48 hours for purchase/gift transaction to be completed and Points to be awarded to recipient.
